Deer stalkers today manage far more than just deer. Across much of the UK, stalking ground now sits alongside public rights of way and increasing recreational access to woodland.

Recent changes under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 introduce unlimited fines for dogs attacking livestock. However, the law does not extend to wild deer.

For those managing woodland populations, this leaves a familiar problem. Dogs allowed to roam freely can cause serious disturbance, particularly in spring when Roe Deer are dropping their kids.
